The Godhra Train Burning was an accident took place in 2002, train "Sabarmati Express" in which SC (sleeper class) passenger bhogi was set to fire on 27th Feb, 2002 by islamists in Godhra near Gujarath, India. In this incident almost 59 passengers died, all of them were Hindu pilgrims coming from Ayodhya. This resulted communal riots and widespread of Hindu and Muslims resulting deaths of 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus.
Upon this incident the two investigation panels Nanavati Panel and The Banerjee Panel has made their points regarding the incident. On 22nd Feb 2011, a Special Court convicted 31 people for perpetrating the burning.
A Final Verdict was annoucned on 1st March, 2011, as among the 31 convicts 11 of them were sentenced to death penalty and other 20 were awarded with life sentences
